About Gallopera

Gallopera is a horse racing management game played in your browser. You share a persistent world with other players, where you train, race, breed and trade horses. Their abilities are hidden, so you have to work out what they can do through training and racing.

Gallopera Park · Race preview

The Stable

Choose each horse’s training and compare its work times with its race results. Distance, going, weight and handicap marks help you judge a horse, but its true abilities are never shown.

The Racecourse

Find a suitable race and choose how your horse should be ridden, from where it settles to how much effort you ask for in the finish.

Watch the race and use the result to plan the next one. The distance, going, weight and how the race was run can all help you decide what to change.

The Market

Buy and sell horses with other players, or trade stallion coverings for breeding.

Breeding

Choose stallions for your mares and breed the next generation of your stable. Keep the horses you breed, race them or sell them to other players.

Jockey Club

Join a Jockey Club and race against other clubs. Your results count towards the club’s ranking and the rewards its members receive.

Questions and answers

Where do I play?

Gallopera is played in a web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. No download is required.

How do I influence a race?

Before the race, you choose where your horse should settle and how much effort to ask for in the finish.

Use what you have learned from training and previous races to make those choices. You do not control the horse during the race.

How are the races rendered?

Races are shown in 2D pixel art. The horses are hand-drawn and animated in Aseprite.

You can watch each race from start to finish.

Can I see my horse’s abilities?

No. A horse’s true abilities and potential are never displayed.

You judge each horse through its work times, race results, weights, preferred conditions and handicap marks.

Are races random because I can’t see the horse’s stats?

Each horse has a hidden genetic profile that affects its racing ability, preferences and breeding potential. Race conditions and riding instructions also affect how it performs.

Better horses are more likely to do well and pass on good traits to their foals.

Do I share the same world with other players?

Yes. You race, breed, buy and sell horses in the same world as other players.

How many races are there each day?

The current schedule has a race every 15 minutes, or 96 races a day. Even if you have no horse to enter, you can watch and bet on other runners.

Can a horse race more than once a day?

No. A horse can race once per day, and you need to manage its freshness.

You decide when to race, when to work and when to canter so it can recover.

When can I play?

The closed beta opens on 8 October 2026 at 16:00 UTC. Access is by invitation. Join the beta list to request a place.

Selected players will receive an invitation code and practical details by email. Codes received early can only be used once the beta opens.

Will I keep my beta stable?

No. Horses, stables and race results from the closed beta will be reset when testing ends, before the permanent world opens.

Is the game free to play?

Yes. A free account can have up to 10 horses in the stable and five breeding slots.

Subscriptions will be available at release for players who need more room. Nothing you buy improves a horse’s abilities or race performance.

Is AI used in Gallopera?

Yes. AI helps with writing and reviewing code, fixing bugs, and editing and translating some text. I review the text and rewrite parts of it myself.

I create the artwork by hand and design all the game mechanics myself.

How can I follow Gallopera’s development?
